"Winter Magic" (oil on linen; 8" x 10") sold

sold

It is never too soon to wish for a snowy winter.  As I was growing up in Seoul, Korea, we had snow every winter.  It was no big deal.  When I lived in Minnesota for graduate work, we had too much snow.  I was sick of snow.  They had a foot of snow in April this year!  Now I live in northern Virginia, I yearn for snow.

Yes, we sometimes get snow, as you can see in my new snow painting.  Last two years, however, have been very disappointing; we got a bit of dusting every now and then.  My daughter, who loves snow and cold weather in general, decided to go to college in Minnesota!

If you send me your pictures to kimstenbergart@gmail.com, I may make paintings out of them.  How fun is that!  At the end of September, I will do a drawing and one lucky person wins a free painting.  You can buy the painting anytime, but there is no obligation.  Thanks!

Today is Day Ten of Leslie Saeta's 30 in 30 Challenge.  20 more paintings to go!  What did I get myself into!

  1. I like your painting - it reminds me that winter can be bright and sunny. Here in New Hampshire we get too much snow and winter lasts too long.

  2. There is no middle ground, is there? It's either not enough snow, or too much! Thanks, Sandra!

  3. Be careful what you wish for! I remember 3 yrs. ago, in 2010, when I was wishing for a white Christmas and we got 3' here in New Jersey on Dec. 26th within 24 hrs. I am careful now about wishing for snow. It's pretty but can be a lot of work! Love your paintings Kim! Good job on the 30/30 so far. I'm off to finish up my biggest piece yet in the challenge -18" x 24". :-D I just love a challenge though, don't you?

  4. I grew up in Minnesota...but have spent my entire adult life, after university, in NM. I miss greenery and blue sky and snow. Now I look for and FIND beauty in the desert. My thirty paintings will all be NM.

So I love your snow painting! In fact I am going to dark Norway over the Christmas holidays to enjoy snow, see the northern lights up close in my face, snowmobile, and take hundreds of photos. I will keep a journal of sketches.
