"Ellie" (oil on linen; 10" x 8") sold

sold

"Ellie" is for Diane who commissioned me to paint three pet portraits.  Thank you, Diane! "Ellie" is the first one.  Ellie is a huge, three-year-old husky who weighs 40 pounds, but thinks she is a five-pound dog.  She does everything Diane's daughter and son-in-law ask of her, except that she is an escape artist!

By the way, "Ellie" is the 25th custom portrait of the year.  I hope to do another 25 during the holiday season!

"Dharma" (oil on linen; 6" x 8") sold

sold

"Dharma" is for Amy.  Dharma, a Husky, was 15 when she died of liver cancer.  She fought hard for a year.  Amy, who is a vet as you may remember from the yesterday's post, helped deliver her.  Amy knew she was the one at two weeks of age.  She was a "daddy's girl".  She was super sweet and loving, a huge giver of kisses.  However, she was a fierce killer of squirrels and snakes!  Dharma, in other words, was the best of both worlds--tough and a sweetheart.

I noticed and had to ask Amy about her eyes.  Yes, Dharma had one electric blue eye and one deep brown.  As she aged, her entire black mask slowly turned white and disappeared.  I am guessing that the reference photo I used was taken when she was younger.  By the way, the picture had all of Amy's three dogs, two snoozing and the alert Dharma nobly looking out.  Here are the other two I painted for Amy.

"Gibson" (oil on linen; 6" x 8") sold

sold

"Gibson" is for my old friend, Karen.  She asked me to paint Gibson for her sister-in-law, Amy. Amy, a vet, loves Huskies.  Gibson, who passed away a year ago, was a sweetheart.  I can relate to that.  Strong, handsome, noble--that's how I feel about Huskies.  My mother-in-law had a Husky named Jediah, who always sat by me at dinner table, because he knew I was a softie, sneaking him food under the table.

If you send your pet's pictures to kimstenbergart@gmail.com, I will make beautiful pet portraits out of them.  How fun is that!  Besides, my pet portraits make perfect birthday and Christmas presents.  Thanks!

My readers, in case you didn't notice, I have created a new page on my blog, called "Pet Portrait Orders".  You will find all the information you want to know about ordering a pet portrait.  Please check it out.

"Nevaeh" (oil on linen; 7" x 7") sold

sold

"Nevaeh" is for my Facebook fan, Tracey.  The reference photo was taken during Snowmageddon 2010.  Snowmageddon was the big blizzard that hit the East Coast.  I am sure, if you live there, you would remember it vividly!  Tracey got over 3 feet of snow; we got 2 feet.

Nevaeh (Heaven backwards) is a Husky/Shepherd mix.  According to Tracey, she is pretty crazy with aggression issues.  That may be so.  To me, she looks like a royalty!  She is a unique-looking dog with piercing blue eyes and big pointy ears.  She is indeed used to attention and gets offended if people walk by her without looking at her.  I used one photo, which didn't show her ears, as the main source of the painting.  Then I "borrowed" her ears from another photo taken in a different angle.  I hope I pulled it off.

If you send your pet's pictures to kimstenbergart@gmail.com, I will make beautiful pet portraits out of them.  How fun is that!  At the end of September, I will do a drawing and one lucky person wins a free painting.  You can buy the painting anytime, but there is no obligation. Thanks!

Today is Day Twenty Four of Leslie Saeta's 30 in 30 Challenge.  "Nevaeh" is my 21th painting of the month.  I might have skipped painting/blogging a few times, but I will be breaking my own record by the end of the month!
